Jo was the illustrator for my Hansel and Gretel story in Underneath the Juniper Tree’s February/Valentine’s issue. (Jo’s also an MCB major at Berkeley, an aspiring author, and alternative model. Busy bee!) She kindly invited me to be a Writer of the Week on her blog, which is available to read here.
Underneath the Juniper Tree reprinted my short story Hannah, Gregory, and the Gingerbread Castle in their February issue. (The story first appeared in a longer form in now-defunct New Zealand magazine Viola Beadleton’s Compendium.) A modern-day Hansel and Gretel retelling, Hannah and Gregory run into the forest to save their father from mountain lions, bears, and bad directions. They come upon the Gingerbread Castle and other things instead.
